Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Reminder 1: Daylight Savings is Sunday, March 10 – Spring Forward and lose an hour of sleep (but hopefully not your sanity).

Reminder 2: We will be hosting “I am N” at church tonight, Friday, March 8. Since it is an online event, if you are a Friday Night online participant, it would be best for you to register individually – otherwise we run into issues trying to receive a livestream event and livestream it to you via zoom. You can register for free at IamNevent.com
My plan is to start at 7:30 pm (using our normal link) with a welcome, brief announcements, and highs and lows. Then we will join online around 7:55 or so. The event itself goes until 10 pm, but we can end at 9:30, or you can depart at that time.
Let’s learn together how God is at work and how we can pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in places where they are persecuted for their faith.

We’ve been going through the book of Genesis in our Sunday worship. You may wonder what chapter 5 is all about. We won’t cover it in our sermon series, so let me give you some interpretive considerations as you read through Genesis 5.
First, this is a new section, telling you what happened to Adam and his descendants. While God had told Adam that he would surely die, he lived a really long time. I take this literally – that Adam did in fact live for 930 years. (If this was figurative, why the specificity on the numbers of years that the people in Adam’s family line lived?)
Second, I don’t think that all the people alive at the time lived as long as Adam and his descendants. I think that it is more likely that it was only Adam and his descendants (in the line of promise) who lived exceptionally long lives. The reason I think this is that God was marking out that this was the line of people through whom his promise would come. They were given extra length of days to continue to provide testimony to God’s mercy and God’s promises.
Third, (and this is more interesting than interpretive), but if you look at the years as literal, you’ll find that Enoch was taken by God after Noah was born. You’ll see that Lamech died just 5 years before the flood. You’ll see that Methusaleh (the oldest man recorded in the Bible) either died the same year as the flood, or died in the flood!

Additionally, please continue to pray for the nations of Israel and Ukraine. Pray that the wars would end. Here is a suggested list of prayers if you are at a loss for words in how to pray: https://send.org/story/hh_pray_for_ukraine. And https://worldrelief.org/blog-prayer-for-israel-and-gaza/ Thank you for kneeling on behalf of the people of Ukraine and Russia, Israel and Gaza and taking a stand (or a knee in prayer) against the forces of darkness in this present age.
